looking for some tiny detailing bits
i just started looking for some tiny detailing bits like rivets, chips and details so i can get back to my Modular Star Hauler master and see if i can't get it finished but i'm not really seeing anything about.
http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/vie ... p?t=112874
i don't want to go and buy a model kit for what might have just 3 or 3 or just not have any detail bits.
and when i say tiny i mean i'm looking for 1mm rivet heads, and maybe some detailed bits about 1mm x .....
i may be be interested in some odd small/tiny PE that's about to fall off your bench into the black hole
any ideas?

For trusses, screens and ladder patterns the little metal earth laser cut kits are a cheap source:

pins of different head sizes are available at fabric shops...might be worth looking into.

okay, just started to take a look at http://www.archertransfers.com/SurfaceDetailsMain.html and was about to say i'd have to see pictures of the items next to a ruler to get a feel of their size when i saw it was all on clear decal paper
decals are not what i am in need of, i need actual detailing bits - this is a master i'm working on

The Archer and Micro-Mark products are raised resin shapes printed onto clear decal film to make application easier, they are not a 2D picture.OdysseySlipways wrote:okay, just started to take a look at http://www.archertransfers.com/SurfaceDetailsMain.html and was about to say i'd have to see pictures of the items next to a ruler to get a feel of their size when i saw it was all on clear decal paper

well, i'll be ordering more rubber this week and will stop in the local craft stores to look at the pins and see if they don't have one or two with nice heads on them that i can then mold and cast-up.
also while i'm out this week, i'm going to try to stop in the small train hobby shop to see if they have any small detailing kits that might work in some way. I was thinking N-gauge but i think that stuff would work better on the 1:4222 and the 2256 scales better

didn't get to the train shop just yet, but i was just looking over at Starship Combat and saw someone over there doing some scratch builds of their won and saw these little red domes - he said they are from a Scrap Book thing, some sort of detail packet of bling so next time i am out i'm going to stop back in AC Moore and Micheal's and look at their scrap book section to see what they have in there. the red domes he's using look to be about 1mm, the size i was looking for (would save me from casting straight pins for their heads........)
anyway, here's the link to the thread: http://www.star-ranger.com/forum/viewto ... 82#p114082
here is a close up picture of 2 of his ships and a ruler at the bottom for scale http://www.star-ranger.com/forum/downlo ... &mode=view and from what i see, they are about 1mm

if i was scratch building on a regular basis bulk wouldn't be a problem, but i don't.
but i will take a look at them, they might just twist my arm.......
i stopped at AC Moore today looking to see if i could find them half pearl bits but all i kept seeing was 2-6mm rhinestones and only 6mm half pearls.....
guess Hobby Lobby is next on the list to see what they have
should have saw me at ac moore trying to explain to the lady the type of book i was trying to think of that they have a section of the store devoted to....... scrap booking........ i had a brain fart moment (names have always been a terrible thing for me to remember)

Have you checked ebay? You should have no problem finding scrap booking stuff like these half-pearls. If I recall, the 3mm ones are great for replacing or adding phaser banks to 1/537 Trek models.OdysseySlipways wrote:

How about these:

Figured these might be useful and you could drill a hole exactly where you want and either glue them in or screw them in.
