Source for hypodermic tubing (more questions sorry!)...
Wise and Sagely Scale Modelers,
Do you all know of a good source for hypodermic tubing? I see the aircraft guys using it all the time, but I never know where they get it.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Kenny

Search for "hypodermic tubing' on eBay. You'll find a fella who offers an assortment of 50 blunt needles.
My example

Funny. Down here I can get all sorts of sizes of needles, from insuline to horse, through catheters, from a variety of places (pharmacies, farm supplies, medical supplies stores etc.). I am always surprised at how easy it is for me to get things. It's a big city and I live close to downtown, where there are shops for everything, literally. Beads, check. Needles and syringes, check. Dremel tools and accessories, check. Jewelers' supplies, check. Electronic components, check. Raw plastics, check.
Sheer elegance in its simplicity.

I'll second Small Parts. Their shipping is awesome, to my location at least. I used the hypodermic tubing they sell in my 1/32 minigun barrel assembly and I just got a big box of brass shim stock and brass tubing from them today. Their prices are very reasonable!Kylwell wrote:SmallParts

I rolled them under a razor blade to scribe the circumference and then snapped them. I use a bit more pressure than I would if rolling brass or aluminum tube, though. Dress the cut edge with a fine sanding board and it's good-to-go. A laser would be nice, thoughLt. Z0mBe wrote:I have a dumb question for you all, especially Joe and Robb. How do you cut them so nice? Dremel, extra, extra, extra high-TPI count razor saw, or laser?
Thanks!

Some will cut with an exacto and pressure. I've also got one of these for chopping stuff but the end still need filling. Or if I really feel like it, I chuck it in the lathe and use it as the worlds most precision tube cutter.Lt. Z0mBe wrote:I have a dumb question for you all, especially Joe and Robb. Just curious This one goes out to Joseph.
Your Mini gun, How did you get the holes in the barrel brackets for the barrels?
I'm trying to scratch some up myself, with aluminum rod stock and brass tubing, and i cannot yet figure out how to drill the holes where i need them to be precise with the tools i have.
Tools in question are a drill press, center square, small drill bits, some clamps of various sizes. ect.

I'm the 'other' Joe, but here's what I would do:
Start with a large rectangular sheet of your material (styrene, metal) for the barrel brackets.
Draw the circles for the barrels to fit through.
Draw larger circles around those to become the actual brackets.
Drill all the holes.
Then, cut the circles carefully from the rectangular sheet.
Inserts barrels.
There are likely enough other ways to do it. But doing it this way would be the least tense/stressful for me, and that's a big part of why I model at all!
