another glue question

Post by redfinger »

Gluing sheet styrene to metal.

I am trying to coat a 1/4in metal rod in sheet styrene.

I have tried wpoxy that was "designed" for that application, gorrilla glue and super glue. After a few days of letting it dry I can peel the sheet styrene off like it was never glued on.

I am thinkng of coating the medal rod in some rustoleum primer, that way the glue has somethibg to "bite" into.

Anyother ideas?

make sure the rod is completely clean. Also, scuff it up. Coarse steel wool or even a metal file will give more surface area for the adhesive. Whatever you use, you want it to be permanent.

A thought is to use a very very thin styrene as your first layer, then put another layer of styrene on with a hot styrene cement. Pre-curve the styrene sheet so it has less curving to do while under stress.
