Thinning Scale Coat II enamel?

Post by DeltaVee »

I finally ordered some Scale Coat II enamels to see if they're as good as Floquil. Their literature says use only Scale Coat thinner. So my questions for anyone who knows:
1. Is there any other cheaper generic thinner that works with Scale Coat?
2. Are today's Scale Coat II enamels compatible for mixing, spraying over, spraying under the last iteration of Floquil as owned by Testors and thinned with their thinner?
Thanks.

Have you searched model railroad forums? That answer is readily available in that environment as far back at least as 2015.

Thanks. Yes. Answers found sofar:
1. Scale Coat II thinner
2. Scale Coat I thinner
3. Mineral spirits
4. Testors Enamel thinner
5. lacquer thinner
6. Diosol
7. acetone
Just wondering if the experts here have some experience. Based on the above, I think the answer is: spend money, take time, figure out what bites and dries smooth, won't pull up, and won't gum up my airbrush. Time is limited, so I was trying to expedite matters.
