removing seams from ribbed parts?

Post by Digger1 »

Ok, how is it done short of removing the ribbed lines on the part itself?

Usuall, if the spae between the ribs is wide enough, I'll use a needle file or sandpaper folded upon itself to shape. Then, to keep the rib defined, I'll "resharped" the edge of a rib by carving with a knife.

I hope this helps.

There is no easy way. The better manufacturers, I've noticed, do thier best to hid the seam or make the part in such a way as it needs no filler.

Sandpaper, a good set of micro files, patients, and a lot of time.

Or if your patients won't do it for you....

Use as little glue as possible, but a liquid glue can actually make your job easier if you can squeeze a bit in the gap. Styrene is much easier to file in that kind of situation than a putty would be.

My patients usually advise me to just replace the detail with similar ribbed sheet plastic. :D

Maybe in medical situations, but not when talking models. All of my patients are model builders. And strippers.
