Barrier/release coatings for SGT application?

Got a question about techniques, materials or other aspects of physically building a model? This is the place to ask.

Barrier/release coatings for SGT application?

Post by Shinnentai »

I've recently become enamored of the superglue & talc putty method. I've come to a point where I'm using it as a bondo/mori-mori alternative for gross recontouring (works faboo, and dirt cheap too).

Is there any substance I can use as a barrier/release coating to selectively prevent the CA from adhering to something? Say if I wanted to make a surface on one part that would be form fitted, but not attached, to the surface of another?

Paul Boyer from FSM did something similar. He used milliput, but what he did was to cover the main part with BareMetal foil. Built up the new part (IIRC, it was a new nose for an MH-53) and then could pop it off. It would probably be a good idea to warm the area a bit first, and not wait too long after attaching it.
