Star Wars VII is coming out this year, shouldn't there be a all Star Wars model contest this year?

Here's an idea for a contest: X-52. It's the one number in the X-plane list that was skipped, ostensibly to avoid confusion with the B-52.

You could build just about anything from any franchise. As long as you slap USAF or NASA on it, you're home free.

The definition could even be expanded to include X-men. Or X files. Whatever.

X-52: the one missing number. Isn't anyone else obsessively compelled towards closure?

Then again, forget about it. I realized almost immediately what the X-52 must be: a semi-scale B-52 dropped from a B-52 mother ship. It's the ultimate government boondoggle: an experiment to confirm the flight qualities of the aircraft in which you're currently flying.

Not only that, but an infinitely regressing set of B-52's ...

How about the "Structures" subject that's been thrown around before? I'd like to try the contest this year, but I'm not much of a Star Wars fan. Plus, Structures is still open enough for those who want to build Star Wars. (You could try to argue that something like a Death Star or AT-AT was a structure, I guess)

No.

I second the Star Wars theme. Unlike "Structures", there's a lot of easily available subject matter, and it's topical; any contest started now would close up close to the opening day of Ep 7.

Sorry I am behind the time, I vote for "Structures" myself. As far as available subject matter, yes it is around and in many forms.

I dunno, to me Star Wars is overdone. It looks to me like john has always picked themes that take us out of our box so to speak and stretch our imaginations and abilities.

I been thinking about the next contest and wanted to suggest
Doing a purposeful them.
I would like to suggest we do pink, for breast cancer awareness.
Any type as long as it is pink and one more requirement would be you have to have the ribbon symbol on the kit somewhere.
Please let me know what you think of this idea.

playing catchup... How about a Starwars Crossover contest.

in StarWars, the Old Republic apparently, lasted a thousand years (or at least, the civilization did).. what about a WW-II era contest in the StarWars Universe. X-wing biplanes, Diesel-powered walkers, Continent Destroyers, jack-booted stormtroopers, and the dreaded Death Island.
On the other tentacle, what if Jedi and Sith were the X-men of their world.
What would Star Trek look like in the Star Wars Universe... Would the Enterprise launch TIE-shuttles?

Idea: How about a contest where MAN is the "alien invader"? What would ships, technology, and for that matter, the people of that world look like as they struggle valiantly to drive the Human race off their world and reclaim their dying civilization?

Keep in mind: "Alien" is a relative term...

Hi Kalhen,

In response to your post on 22 Oct- I'm actually fine with it, it is pretty wide ranging as anybody could indulge themselves in there own interest whether it was SW, Trek or Mecha or even real space as long as the finish was the right colour. And Pink is a versatile colour, the SAS used it for Desert Land-rovers 'Pinkies' or 'pink panthers' for camouflage, Recce Spitfires were also pink in WWII. In Starwars the Landspeeder was definitely pink, and I'm sure you all have other examples. Not to mention using the colour as a way to put a new spin on an existing model.

Yep, PINK as the theme gets a thumbs up for me and maybe if the entry fee was increased by a dollar or two it could help raise some money for Charity? Seems like the right time of year to be talking about giving ( as well as wanting to start a new contest).

Pink would be good, but you would have to have a humor section then too. Smile I still favor structures more, just trying to be different.
