Cabal Hover tank

The challenge: build any kind of hover tank without using a tank kit's hull or turret - because nothing saus 'fun' like 70 tons of floating mayhem.

Cabal Hover tank

Post by HWR MKII »

Inspired by the PSP game battle zone i have started working on a design. I had posted it before but it sat on a shelf for a good while. Its back out now. Ill try to get some shots up tonight. Heres a link to a pic of the tank as presented in game. My variation is loosely based on this as far as overall shape but details will differ drastically.

That design is wicked and can well image what you can do with it

If you don't, a rudimentary lathe can double as an emergency paint

I gotta ask-where is your current sig line from?

Beauty! So different from what I imagine a tank looking like. I love it!

Whoa! I missed this post. Battle Zone was actually part of the inspiration for m design. I fed that game a lot of quarters when I was a kid. Well a non-grownup kid. :P

That stuff can be bloody useful. However, I always have problems covering the texture.

If you read the first post of this thread it says the new Battlezone for the PSP is my inspiration.

I have a bottle of thinned bondo spot putty. I paint it on the board once its shaped. Wetsand it with some 300 grit to take down the texture then shoot it with a good filler primer and wetsand with finer grits.

I should have something turretlike on wed or thursday. Im sketching some things out. I already have a start to a barrel using an old tamiya mortar as a base. Gives an interesting look.

Looking forward to it-its terrific so far.

I don't know about modeling board ( is it something like Resnshape?)
but for surfacing regular insulation styrafoam I've had good luck
using Elmers Wood putty. Smooths with water, dries quickly, and
its cheap. Still quite delicate, so I wouldn't reccomend it as a
final surface, but its useful.

Im getting there. Just trying to make something that doesnt look like a conventional turret. As others have said this doesnt look like a conventional hovertank. In the end i want this to look like a thought out design and not a kitbash. The game art im basing it on helps but it doesnt fill in all the gaps so its allowing me some personal freedoms.

Oh i have also decided to hollow out the body and add a cockpit with a raised hatch section. YAY FUN!

Was thinking of kit-bashing my 2 TEchnopolice 21C tanks as they have cockpits, working hatches, figures, etc.

But decided to build them OOTB instead.

IMO, a hover-tank like ther gundam one is not really suited for this challenge but don't have the skills to scratchbuild anything aka "Centurion:Renegade Legion" stuff.

Ill be getting back on this on thursday. Took some time out to finish up a Panzer IV C that i bought 3 years ago.

Still working this. Got the basic cockpit shape hollowed out and the hatch cover made. Turret is still an enigma to me. I dont want it to look like anything else out there. I have been toying with the idea of mirroring the overall shape of the central hull on it.

How about something along the lines of teh M60A2, the infamous 'starship'? Perhaps lower and longer?

That is kinda what im thinking but a bit flatter. More merkava like but without being a merkava turret or even looking close to one. More like a flattened and thinner merkava 4 turret. When viewed from the top though the turret would be very similar to the core body in shape.

Question for everyone if i post a link to the main photobucket album can you all see it? Direct links are out for the moment. I have made some good progress on the cockpit and the base turret shape and have no way of showing it.

Tell me if you can see the photos in that link.
