At my Home Depot they have 4 x 8ft 3/4 inch in stock. BUT...right next to it they have 4 x 8ft TWO INCH thick Expanded Polystyrene (the white beaded stuff). ???? :x Guess that is cheaper to stock than the Owens Corning stuff... Anyway...I am going with the 3/4 stuff and laminating...that's better th...

That's the Poly-Iso stuff that is attached to a metal or paper backing. Not the same thing. Thanks for the link though.

OT - Extruded polystyrene foam insulation

This is for model railroading...my other hobby...but I wanted to ask since there are so many knowledgable people on this board. Does anyone know where I can get this stuff in Florida? Since it's so damn warm down here the thickest you can get is 1/2". I am needing 1" or 2" thickness.....

Yes...you should be wearing a respirator no matter what. Even outside although I must admit I violate that rule myself cause I'm in a hurry and well...I'm outside...:) Why should you wear one? If you can smell the paint...even outside...particles ARE going into your lungs. The particles are bad for ...

Ah...welcome to the world of visual effects continuity inconsistency. Star Wars was particularly affected by this issue. The special edition...with their digital X-Wings in the first Death Star battle...are ALL Red 2. Talk about laziness... Anyway...to answer your question...the usual consensus is t...

As long as they are all acrylics...and fully cured between coats...you shouldn't have any issues with mixing paints.

I am conversing with JT grahpics about what I need... Just waiting to hear back from him... I thought about blocking with another color (and printing on white decal paper), but cutting out the image I need will be a royal pain (compound curves in very small areas). Painting it would be even worse as...

Ouch...$1000. I don't need the capability that bad.

Thanks for the info though.

I'll try JT graphics and see what they say...

You would think that HP, Kodak, or Cannon would make a printer with white ink printing capability at some point. They already do gray for pete's sake.

Home made decals

Since the ALPS line of printers are no longer being made and I don't feel like pursuing one in an auction, what are some of you doing to make your own decals? Specifically what are you doing about decals that have to have white in them? I am aware of the white backed decal paper (and have some of it...

The powders they speak of (such as MIG and Tamiya) are recommended because they have an adhesive built into them...thus sparing someone from having to spray a fixitive. The fixitive can ruin the whole effect of powders anyway. I personally use them very sparingly. I prefer to paint my weathering whe...

Yes...do NOT use MM lacquer flat over it unless you are doing so in an airbrush (misting the coats on). Even if you let the Tamiya dry for a week, the MM can still eat away at the paint. I'm assuming you are using their acrylic in the bottle and not the lacquer (hot acrylic) in the rattle can. Use a...
