I use the aves putty for everything now. Even very small gaps. I mix a very small amount and roll it out bit. then i use a knife and cut a little sliver and place it with a toothpick. Once in place I smooth it with the aves solvent and it works great. I guess I bought the wrong stuff. :( I have lot...

Eh? :? I don't use future for anything but windshields. I've tried shooting it through an airbrush but that just fouled my airbrush and gave me orange peel. I just use Testors Glosscoat or Dullcoat, depending upon the requirement.

Butters, What did you thin your Aves with water or Alcohol and how thin did you make it? There is a point where the putty will loose cohesion (even with their thinner) because it has been thinned too much. In those instances I use the paste and thin that as it is a slightly different formulation an...

Do you do that just prior to application? Or before?

Can/Should GK decals (JBOT and the like) be oversprayed with Testors Clear Flat Laquer, in order to give them a bit more 'body', for placement? The instructions for my Stargazers Mk I kit say they've already been treated to a coat. I ask because I've had trouble with Black Suns decals (not sure who ...

I have to disagree. I have tubs of AVES in the basement, well over a year old. Are you using the paste or the putty? I've never had the putty separate but the paste does. I've also never seen them not cure - in fact, the older it is the faster it seems to cure. I have the paste. I don't think seper...

Hmph, Aves. Double MEH! Here's my tale: I ordered some from John about 18mo. ago and never opened them . They've been sealed till last night. So, I crack into them after reading the directions, which say that when mixed, it will have a 'batter-like' consistancy and approx. a 3hr working time....

Questions about Alclad

What can anyone tell me about Alclad? I've heard good things, but have some questions; Is it airbrush only, or does it come in a can? Brush? Is it suitable for outside applications? How 'foolproof' is it? Where can one obtain it?

I'll second the fine tip pens. Although, finding white is a real b&%$#! My fave are the Pigma Micron, 005 size. Aside from white and black, also get yourself a red. Good for the red marks at the ends of phaser strips, and for the docking hatches. Now that I think about it, get several colors! :D

What, exactly, is Tamiya Flat Base X-21? Is it a 'flat' that can be added to gloss paints? A flat clear coat of some kind?

Exactly what I did. Got some sprue from the same kit as the parts (so the plastic'd be exactly the same) put it in a jar with Acetone, for an hour and checked. No reactivity at all after an hour.

Thanks.
