You don't need a ton of it. Think of it like a layer of paint, but one that will melt once you get to the final step. Everything should be dry before you begin, otherwise you'll just smudge it when you wet the top layer of paint.

I would also add that resin almost always seems to be rougher on the sculpt, so if you want a flawless model it can take more work. But that can also be the fun part. I have seen a few near-perfect resin models. And of course there are plenty of bad styrene kits. Not much else that hasn't been said ...

#1 is going to be to use really skinny tape. I don't know what kind you use, but if it's too wide then you can just trim a piece with a ruler and knife. I always use 3M green automotive tape, and that stuff stretches around bends really well, especially if you trim it thin. Cheapie white masking tap...

Looked on the internet this weekend and it's listed as being sold at Sears and Walmart both for 12.44 a tube. Not in stores though, it's through third parties on their sites, like how on Amazon you have to be careful and check that you're actually ordering FROM Amazon now. Guess everybody's doing t...

I predict that the main answers are going to be automotive spot putty (no mixing) and Aves (2 parts). Both of which are good, just for different things. Aves won't crack so it's good for larger stuff. I would never use it for a pinhole or something else tiny so spot putty is good for that. Also, sup...

Do you have a building materials recycling store near you? Here there's a Habitat for Humanity store, for instance. They sell just about everything, but of interest to you might be stuff like old countertops and doors, both of which make great surfaces to build on. They're usually cheap too. Another...

^ Springs are a great way to go. Although once you reach a certain size you can more easily see the gaps that form between the wire around tighter bends. I've seen guys use guitar strings before. Never mind, that won't be thick enough. Bass guitar strings come much thicker, for someone looking for t...

Shows out of stock at the moment, but I know it's a current color.
Looks like Vallejo also makes it under the number FS37144.

I bet you'll still have the stickiness problem no matter what you put on it, as the incompatibility of enamel on various vinyl and nylon products tends to migrate up through paint... Unfortunately you'll probably have to strip it back and then you may or may not have luck with first priming it with ...
