Maybe y'all are scratchbuilding bigger things than I do. The .040 is heavy framing material around here - even for a 15inch long 1/48 scale space fighter. Or HO scale and On30 scale train car and locomotive bodies. Then again, there are problems with my hands and that is the heaviest I want to try t...

Re: My Failed Entry
To be honest, the weathering I did was a little heavy for my taste, but from far away it looks good :) And after seeing pics of the filming model, I was surprised how heavily weathered it looked, so I guess my brain went there. Take a picture at 1995 television screen resolution and see if that doe...

Something similar to Ziz' method works for me. Tape, sticky notes, are useful too  keep them away from where liquid glue might encounter the adhesive. For spatulas I use the X-acto style large and narrow chisel blades. Sometimes on the handle so as to dip in Testors liquid cement before picki...

Re: What is best to use for panel lines?
Also looking for the best way to make à wash for panel lines? If the goal is to have a wash settle in to engraved panel lines it is a good idea to apply that wash over gloss paint or a gloss coat over matte paint because on matte paint the wash will settle in to the miniature-sandpaper-like surface...

Reason for glosscoating before decals is that matte, flat, paints have a surface which under a microscope looks like sandpaper - that is how they break up light reflection. Laying a decal over that is like laying a sheet of paper on a gravel road, it only touches the high points - that is what cause...

As has been said, the liquid plastic glues weld the material. Tube glues - a little bit but no so much as the liquids. Each has things it is better for. Also, when sanding, CA is immensely harder than styrene or ABS; that's something to keep in mind. Ah, that brings up that styrene and ABS require d...

Re: New model builder with a dumb question for you all!
do you apply it to the whole rim of the parts being cemented or apply it only to the pins and holes on the model for fitting it together? A: Yes, I do. Meaning, that sometimes when using the liquid glue applied with a brush I will start by putting a bit on the pins and/or tabs and then after proper...
