Re: Vallero
Is it "vallero or Vejio?I was wondering about these paints. They are acrylic urethane paints said to be "airbrushable" strait out of the bottle(although I would thin them anyway). I was curious to use Vallejo Air because I hear it smells like candy. But today I just got an email from ...

Re: UV Reflective Paints
Yeah, in the '80s my friend had a Led Zeppelin blacklight poster. It really glowed when he shined his blacklight on it. Spencer Gifts had a lot of that kind of stuff in the back of their stores. Dunno what they're like anymore.naoto wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 10:14 amOn a sidenote... how many of us remember the blacklight poster fad?

Re: UV Reflective Paints
I've used the fluorescent/glow-in-the-dark lacquers by Gaia Notes. I believe it is the UV-reflective element of the paint that forms very hard clumps on the bottom of the bottles which need to be stirred very well in order for the paints to work properly. They glow in the dark, but they aren't like ...

I seem to remember someone online mentioning a technique using canopy/white glue between coats of paint. Has anyone tried this with Micro Kristal Klear or something?

Re: clear resin curing
Thanks. The instructions did mention about helping the curing process. It was rather warm last week, but this weekend it suddenly became cold again. I can try setting the molds on the window sill to hopefully let the sun warm them up. At least the one that I haven't yet opened.

clear resin curing
Does clear resin take a longer time to cure than regular resin? Last week I tried out creating silicone molds for resin casting for the first time. I cast some flight decks of a carrier ship from Yamato in clear. I injected the clear resin Saturday afternoon. After 24 hours, I took one out of its mo...

If you don't have an LED tester, you can just use a CR2032 battery. Just slide it between the prongs and a 3mm LED ought to light up.

I've found regular flickering LEDs at Dollar General in the form of faux "tea candles." Take 'em out of their faux candle holder and remove the faux silicone rubber "flame" and you've got 'em. For a buck each you can't go wrong. Like I said, these are SMDs. Flickering LEDs are n...

NEW: flickering SMDs
Jerry at HDA Modelworx has requested his factory to custom make flickering 0805 SMDs. AFAIK, nobody else has these. He's sent me red, blue, yellow, green, white, and warm white flickering SMDs and these are pretty cool. My mind is working on what I could use these on. These are neat.

Re: Magnetic energy conductors
What I want to do is have a model with a rather flat underside be magnetically attached to a base, so that the power will transfer through the plastic without contacting metal points. A switch can turn it on and off, and the model can still be removable from its base. I think user Ultron was telling...

The energy flowed through the plastic into the corresponding connectors attached to the interior of the hull. Could anyone tell me what this sort of thing is called, and where ...

White paint refracts light, while metallic paint reflects it. Refraction is better for lighting up windows and such.

Re: Clean-up and Priming Shapeways parts...?
It's been said on the Shapeways site that washing the parts in alcohol and even acetone works. Unlike styrene, the material that Shapeways parts is made of won't get damaged from it. After my initial attempt at washing the parts, I ended up using acetone and an old toothbrush to get the rest of that...

Q about thinning Mig acrylics
I'm looking at getting Mig's paint color set for the Su-35 Flanker. I was wondering if I could just use Tamiya's acrylic thinner on it, just as I can with Model Master Acryls? How about lacquer thinner? Thanks in advance.

I use Tamiya's fine drill bit set. It has a .3 and a .8 drill bits, which are close enough to .25 and .75. There's another drill bit set for larger jobs, from 1mm to 3mm. You can look for these at your hobby store or online.

With the experience I now have, I was able to bang out another strobing circuit rather quickly last night. I tested it and it works. This has been an interesting pursuit of knowledge, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a $30 Arduino board like several people have told me.

Thanks for all the advice. I heated up the contacts to pull the diode out, flipped it, and now it works! I didn't have to touch the capacitor. I apparently have the negative prong of the capacitor hooked up to prong 2 of the 555 chip. Should I go ahead and flip the capacitor anyway? EDIT: I flipped ...

Since you say that you successfully built a strobe light on bread board I can only assume that your wiring/soldering is the problem. Double check your wiring and connections. Personally I would have used a board with copper traces on it already. If possible remove the components and put them back o...

Thanks, that's good advice. I have drilled a fair few holes already, and noticed that just shining a light behind them looks OK. It sounds like you really got ripped off. At least you can still use the battery pack and fiber optics. Considering that a Star Destroyer does not have flashing nav lights and such, you could buy your own LEDs and resistors to light up this kit on your own. Assuming you have a soldering iron, you co...
