I'm glad to see the deadline extended again. I've got one more unbuilt Comet Empire ship.

I am FAIL!

Well, I bit off a bit more than I could chew. I thought I could bang out a 220+ piece Master Grade in a day. Truth be told, If I didn't have to work today and could have stayed up all night, it would be done. But sadly, I am fail. :( In the beginning: http://kitbash.net/MG/Age1/DSC09746.JPG Mid poin...

Questions

Ok,is the contest still open? I may try it this weekend. I'm thinking something like 6pm Saturday til 6pm Sunday to allow a base coat of paint to dry on the parts while I sleep. Then get up early, detail, decal, and weather.

Acceptable?

Ok, 2 questions: What are the start/end dates for entries? I'm Working two 12 hour shifts this weekend. But I'm off a day this week. So if you don't mind a late start... I had previously laid out decals in Adobe Illustrator for a kit that didn't have any and had them printed for the kit I have in mi...

Thanks :) What is the volume of an Aves 4lb kit? Pint, quart? etc?

OK I have some old Patlabor 1/35 vinyl kits from the late 80's (Saturn, Peacemaker, etc). I want to know if anybody has used Aves as filler for vinyl kits. I want to fill them, or at least put a 1cm layer around the inside of all the vinyl parts to re-enforce them and keep them from warping over tim...

Questions about Model Master Acrylics

Hello All, I usually use either MR Color or Tamiya for my kits. However at this last Wonderfest I got to play with Model Master Acrylics for the 1st time during Iron Modeler. I was able to adapt to them in an airbrush in seconds. But it got me wondering about their use. I wonder how well they hold u...

THanks guys :)

One of the big problems I had before was masking after having a base coat down. When I pulled up the tape, it sometimes lifted the paint/primer down to the brass again.

Any ideas there?

Advice on painting photo etch

Hello, I'm going to buy the photo etch interior for the 1/128 Flying sub that comes with the Seaview kit. I've had trouble with chipping or flaking of paint on larger previous photo-etch parts. Any advice on advanced preparation or primer/paint that will adhere better with out loosing detail? Thanks...

Switch to tamiya. I use isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) for thinner. Also I found that Tamiya acrylic paint will bite into tamiya spray primer is allowed to cure (24 hours).

If you hand paint tamiya, it is self leveling.

All hail LITHIUM 9v batteries!!!

Hey all, I was having a problem not getting enough amps to the McCashin. Everthing worked before final assembly, but the blinking nav lights were to dim to see after final assembly. I was talking with a friend and it got me thinking. I knew I had enough volts, but figured I was short on Amps. My ini...

Thanks. The question was actually aimed at Chas but run by me again how a pressure pot makes bubbles move to the surface? Hold for 5 minutes , then decompress. All the expanding air moves to the surface. Hasn't the resin set or at least thickened by then? When you release the pressure form a pressu...

Exactly! If you use the board it applies even pressure. If you try to use a rubber band or some such thing it will distort. ;)

I've actually had success with just a pressure pot. Mind you, these guys are telling you the 'right way' to do it. But it doesn't take much frankenzoiding to get good result with just a pressure pot. I put the mold in the pot, then crank it up to 40psi. Hold for 5 minutes , then decompress. All the ...

Allumilite sells resin dye for $4 a bottle. One bottle of each color is all you will ever need. The red and blue work great. And you can control how dark the color is by the amount of dye added.
