Scale: 1/48 Here is my interpretation of the SKIPRAY Blastboat from The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels. I am unfamiliar with the vehicle’s history in other books, but its unique yet believable design really got my attention! However, I did make some modifications to the original version that is illustrated on page 142. I used the sketches to guide me through the project, but I choose to go with the advanced version, model 12j, that is mentioned in the book. The 12j is described as having larger ammunition bays, so I decided to give it a wider nose to accommodate the extra ammo. Also, the ship has a “generic” paint scheme. Since the Empire did not purchase these ships in large quantities, Sienar Systems made them available for purchase to the public, and can be decorated to order. The scale is about 1:48. The rear wings rotate, and the cockpit is somewhat detailed. This is my first scratch built project, so I decided to use the “kitbash” technique. The parts include a Bell OH58 helicopter, an F-15 jet, various car model parts, ball point pens, sheet styrene, and model putty. I mixed several shades of grey with silver, blue, and red to paint the panels. Image: Front view Image: Rear view |
