This ship was another of Lando Calrissian's literally hot usiness ventures. After his attempt at government as administrator of Cloud City on Bespin, Lando needed to lay low for a while. He used a great deal of what he salvaged from Bespin to purchase 12 Heat Resistant Escort Vessels, better known as "Shieldships". These were custom built to his specifications by the Republic Engineering Corporation, and were around 800 meters long by 400 m at their widest.

The Shieldships were used to escort ships to his mining operation on the dark side of the planet Nkllong, which was too close to the system's star for normal ships to operate. Shieldship #4 was larger than the others, and thus able to escort more ships.
